Lake George officials seek sources of West Brook pollution

Jamie Munks

LAKE GEORGE -- Village officials want to nail down what’s polluting West Brook.

Environmentalists have suggested a correlation between increased nutrient levels in West Brook and the village’s wastewater treatment plant, and now local officials are wondering how much an old landfill plays in polluting the brook, which is a major Lake George tributary.

“The old town dump is downstream,” Lake George village Mayor Robert Blais said. “If anything is suspect, that could be too.”

Lake George Waterkeeper Chris Navitsky and Lake George Watershed Coalition Director Dave Decker have offered to work with village officials to do some testing to determine how much of a role the village plant plays in polluting West Brook, Blais said.
