Giant Eagle Employee Accused Of Eating $9,200 Worth Of Deli Meat

BOLIVAR, Ohio (AP) – This case could be one of "thinly sliced larceny," but whether charges emerge remains to be seen. A loss-prevention manager at a Giant Eagle supermarket in Bolivar, Ohio, recently received an odd tip about a longtime employee at the deli counter: She was accused of noshing on up to five slices of ham every day, though she occasionally was believed to have switched things up with salami.

The store estimated she'd scarfed down about $9,200 worth of deli meat, and the Canton Repository reports she admitted on Friday to the illicit snacking.

But a Facebook post from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office notes that rumors of charges for felony theft on the "small amounts of lunch meat" allegedly devoured each time are, at the very least, premature:

"No determination of charges has been made. The procedure is to send the report to the Prosecutor's Office and they are the ones to decide."

The post adds that "felony charges are unlikely."

it would be termination. As to felony charges, that would be a real stretch and very hard to prove the amount of loss.

When she was accused of eating the ham, she shouted out, "Baloney!"
The company took this as an admission of guilt.

Five slices of deli sliced ham is just enough to make a decent sandwich, this store doesn't have a "employee meal " for it's deli workers?

Plus $9200 bucks worth at five slices a day? How long has this woman worked there? Twenty years?

Personally I think the store is being awful cheap, every place that I worked around fresh food (restaurants and Delis) I was allowed to snack a bit.

Do you want to eat in a place that the help won't or can't eat the food they cook or serve? Not me!

One of my brothers worked in an ice cream shop.
He could eat all the ice cream he wanted for free.

After about a week, he was sick of the stuff and ate no more.
