Prominent Oklahoma Republican Caught With Cocaine and Pills
Former head of the Oklahoma Republican Party and prominent lobbyist Chad Alexander was busted Tuesday evening following a traffic stop that uncovered 3.35 grams of cocaine and 9 pills of prescription oxycodine, a controlled substance. He was booked in Oklahoma County jail and released after posting $5,000 bail. The police affidavit made no mention of passengers in the car.
Alexander and a second person organized a lobbying group called “Oklahomans for a Conservative Future,” whose boost to the campaign of state Representative T.W. Shannon was $650,000. Alexander also is a consultant for another conservative group, Coalition for Oklahoma’s Future, a PAC that collected large sum donations from corporations and individuals to beat back Tea Party opposition. According to The Oklahoman, Alexander is a registered lobbyist for “the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Market Wholesale, Glazer’s, Oklahoma Home & Community Healthcare Advisory Council, Oklahoma Roofing and Sheet Metal, Primary Vision Care Services, Republic Beverage Company and the University of Oklahoma.”
The 40-year-old from Choctaw released a statement following his arrest stating that he was ashamed of his behavior and he would work to fix it. He added:
I regret to inform you that I will be taking a leave of absence from my personal and professional obligations for approximately the next 28 days. I am leaving immediately for inpatient care at the Sante Center for Healing.
Over the course of the last several months, due to the pressure of meeting the demands of my clients at the state Legislature, 15 campaigns, and my duties as a single father, I became personally overwhelmed and started down a path of dependency on chemical substances in an effort to maintain my workload.
My dependency on chemical substances unfortunately culminated in my arrest on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Oklahoma County.
What began only a couple months ago has quickly escalated to a point that has caused me to carefully re-evaluate myself and I am committed to making healthy and permanent changes to prevent anything like this from ever happening again.
