More than 360 restaurants in Pennsylvania will be modernized at a price tag of about $266 million, according to a press release.
Upgrades will include:
Modernized dining rooms with globally and locally inspired decor, new furniture and refreshed exterior designs.
Enhanced customer experience with digital self-order kiosks that make ordering and paying for a meal easier. Kiosks empower guests to browse the menu, find options and tailor their meal just the way they want.
Remodeled counters allow for new table service that offers guests the opportunity to relax while their food is being made.
Bright and easy to read digital menu boards inside and at the drive through.
New designated parking spots for curbside pick-up through mobile order and pay.
Expanded McCafe counters and larger display cases.
McDonald's has struggled to maintain its relevance in a crowded market of restaurants, especially in the fast-casual segment that includes Panera Bread and Five Guys.

I prefer to avoid automated kiosks and checkouts, but more and more stores and restaurants are making it so there are several of them available and only two or three real human beings providing service, so the lineups are frustratingly long.

(11,800 posts)Walked into a McDonalds last week and went to counter. Girl behind counter comes out from behind counter and takes me to kiosk. Now she's going to type everything in for me.WTF? I got it, I said and she goes back to counter. Press pay cash and it prints out a ticket to take to the counter and pay the girl. Stupid. Waste of time and resources. Unbelievable.

(2,453 posts)Perhaps she sees her job getting lost and creating a need for a position to help people navigate the kiosk? Not saying you needed the help.... If I were stuck working there, that's what I would do.
Not that I disagree, but the manager directed her. It was so stupid! If you're going to ask me what I want, type it in, and accept the money....WTF? Why are you wasting my time, dig? It would have been faster to just do it at the counter. And when I told her it was ridiculous, she couldn't care less. But whatever. If I was making $8 per hour, I wouldn't care either.
