Meet Darcelle Slappy, candidate for PA HD-10
This state house district was actually gerry-mandered to be a Democratic seat, but is currently occupied by Republican Aaron Bernstine. He won both his and the Dem primary after the Dem candidate got kicked off the ballot of insufficient valid petition signatures. When Darcelle was told voters in HD-10 would have no option to Bernstine, she stepped up, collected enough signatures and is on the Green Party ballot line although she's a Democrat.
These are the races we need to win to regain control of the state house.

Slappy, 43, said shes heard stories from family and friends about black Americans marching for civil and voting rights and was rankled at the lack of options on the Nov. 6 general election ballot after previous generations fought to have their say.
Im not letting anyone trample on that as long as I can do something about it, she said. If I can take action and do something, then thats what Im going to do. I felt it was my duty to get up and do that.

Slappy expressed a willingness to learn about the issues affecting voters in more rural areas than shes used to, recalling speaking to a woman who asked about food sovereignty and agricultural issues. She didnt know the answer, but Slappy said she researched it and attended a food sovereignty discussion at Slippery Rock University then returned to the voter with an answer.
Im glad because it ended up helping me with some information about what she was going through, Slappy said.
