imo that's because it's only been "no excuse" absentee ballot voting since 2019. Most Pennsylvanians are just used to voting on election day.

I get excited reading about high Dem mail-ins. And hopeful. Our house is split: Lori mails it, I go to the polls. I like the process of going there and seeing the poll workers. And pushing my ballot into the machine.

It's easier now with the paper ballots, you fill in ovals for your candidates, then feed your ballot into the optical scanner yourself. The scanner will also tell you if you overvoted, too. If so, the judge of elections will give you a new ballot.

Feels like accomplishing a substantial task, which it certainly is.

I research it well and fill it out. Then I go to early voting and take it with me just in case there is a snag at the polls. I’m allowed to take it in the booth for reference after they tear off a corner. After I vote, I hand it to them to destroy and put my booth ballot in the machine.

I will say this- I have notice a much improved process in Montgomery Co. PA where I live.

Several years ago, my son did not receive his mail in ballot in time- despite having applied for one weeks in advance.

Now, sending ballot in via USPS - ballot is received by the county and vote is recorded within 2-3 days- at least that has been our experience.

Easy Peasy, and the USPS delivers our ballots and I make sure to check that they were received by using Where's My Ballot on line.

On the other hand, Tuesday or maybe Wednesday or Thursday, whenever all the Pa. votes are counted will be a glorious day for democracy. Wife and I will have a hand in flipping a Magat Senate seat.

The Magat state legislators passed a law forbidding counting mail in ballots until election day and then the Magats turn around and complain why it is taking so long to get results.

All the counties took new state money to administer elections, but it came with the string attached that all mailed in ballots must be counted continuously until complete. I believe the counties are allowed to begin pre-canvassing mailed ballot starting on election day, too. They don't have to wait until polls close to start the process like before.

I am hoping that enough partial results would be enough to call most of the races Tuesday evening.

somewhere between my receiving my mail in ballot and when I went to fill it out, I think I accidentally trashed it.

Not big deal though, I know I'm voting and the polling place is just around the corner.

If your ballot never made it back to the county election board, your name won't be on the list and there will be no indication that you've already voted. I don't think you'll have to vote on a provisional ballot.

I'm fortunate that the county's Voter Services is in the same building as I work (I am a county employee) so went up there last week to follow up on an email I had sent to alert them that my mail in ballot was lost and the form to be used to request a new one wasn't linked to the website.

Now if I wanted to, I could have gone down to where the ballot print shop was and had them print me a new one, but I wasn't planning on going down there between then and election day so they just said to just do a provisional one and when my mail in is not counted, it'll be voided and my provisional would be counted.

Make me very nervous. All we need is a bunch of Trumpers working in the mailroom destroying ballots they believe to be from Democrats. Scares me so much.

voters are notified by email when their ballot is received. The party tracks who has already voted and contacts Democrats who haven't voted to ask them to vote in person. Slippage from ballots lost or trashed in the mail should be greatly minimized.

Just for fun, went to the PA elections website and looked up the 2022 Dem primary numbers to compare to the current mailed vote stats. I used only Fetterman and Lamb and assumed that the % of Ds who vote for Rs and visa versa are about even, meaning 100% of D ballot requests will be for D candidates. I picked out 5 red counties: Beaver, Butler, Cameron, Tioga and Westmoreland.
