Our dumbass neighbor is allowing a gas well to go on his farm. I'm sick because there is nothing we can do about it.

(5,604 posts)Seriously I'm sorry to hear that, and appalled that the greed of one is more valuable the health and safety of others.

(1,249 posts)I'm sorry this is happening. And for what it's worth, I'm angry for you.
I'm curious how the Chevron guy presented the news to you.
A suggestion--I've read that it's a good idea before the well is drilled to have your water thoroughly tested. It serves as a baseline and makes it easier to connect any future changes (should there be any) to the drilling. Just a thought.
Good luck and I hope you'll let us know how it goes.

(28,394 posts)I don't remember exactly what he said because I was trying to keep the dogs from getting out the door, and I was making dinner. Extremely annoying!
He said he was from Chevron, and they were putting a well on that nearby farm. He said the neighbors had signed and we would receive so much per acre. He also said they would not set foot on the surface of our property. When I refused to sign, he said was there a time when he could sit down and talk with us. I said NO. I asked him to leave a copy of the stuff he had on his clipboard, and he said he would drop it off. He wasn't back today, though.
I was thinking... yes, but what if the house or yard collapses because of the drilling underneath!! We do have a well, but we have public water lines, too. (We only used the well for washing vehicles, etc. until the pump broke.)
I'm going to check with the one or two neighbors that we speak to, to see if they really did sign. But...Chevron is going to do what they want whether we agree to it or not. I'm really stressed out over it.

(18,219 posts)Have you talked to your neighbor yet, just to ask if it is true? I would not confront him, but it is possible that he has not signed on yet. One of the tactics of these gas lease guys is to tell you that your neighbors have signed already, so you might as well sign too.
You may find that he is just considering it, and you can talk to him about the issues before he signs. Make sure.

(12,328 posts)The gas companies are actually using military psyops on residents to get them to agree to whatever it is the gas companies want.

(18,219 posts)used by a gas company. The tactic of telling people that their neighbors have signed already is one of the talking points.
If you want to see it, PM me.

(28,394 posts)I told him to leave something for me to read over... and a contract for my attorney (my son, actually) to read. Of course, he didn't leave anything... he just left.
Talking to the neighbors is a good idea, too. I shouldn't assume that everyone is on board with this. Thanks for the good suggestions, everyone!
