I personally feel that if one has a permit, it should be issued by the state or a subdivision of that state where the individual lives.

I do have issue on how the city of Philadelphia handles permits. I was denied a permit by the city. At the time I was doing night deposits for the company I worked for.

I went through all of the hoops that they required. I was photographed, fingerprinted, etc... I had all of the forms filled out etc... Denied due to a lack of unverifiable references. Basically you need references for them to contact. Neither one of the references I had listed were ever contacted. I had to repeat the process to reapply. I did this twice more with the same result. I fear that the color of my skin and neighborhood I was stuck in at the time had more to do with it than my references. One of my neighbors reported the same problem.

I have never committed nor been charged with a crime, I have zero background disqualifications in being legally able to obtain the permit.

I moved a few years later. Used the exact same references when I applied in my new county. Was issued the permit that afternoon.

Was that fair?

my understanding is that politicians in Philadelphia have tried without success for many years to get some improved gun control measures that they feel they need. They are constantly shut down by Harrisburg. Then the state says that municipalities cannot set more stringent rules than the state's rules. Thus Philadelphia cops have their hands tied.

So, they compensate in what miniscule, unfair way that they can, by being very stringent about issuing permits.

Like I said, probably not fair. But I don't think having rural communities limit a large city's ability to regulate guns is fair either.

However, most likely what she has done is prompt a lawsuit. My guess, is that once she closes the other loopholes for Utah and (I cannot remember the other state), is that a lot of residents of Philly are going to file a lawsuit for unfair practices. Downside to that, is it is going to make Philly look incredibly racist.

What always amused me is that folks make it seem like you can fill out an online form, and you get a firearms license sent to you in the mail. When in fact there are specific courses one must take and pass, be fingerprinted, background checked, etc... to obtain the permit. In PA, there is no such requirements. It is actually more difficult for a person to obtain a Florida or Utah permit than one from PA. Personally it is too easy to get a license in PA, and this needs to change IMO.

I am so very grateful that she won the election! I have no doubt that this will not be the last step she takes. And this is a common sense step that should have been done a long time ago. In fact, it should take more to get a concealed carry license....in Ohio, they require people to take a class prior to getting one, so at least they have shown some competence as well as learning basics that we have no idea if the PA carriers have.

Time to get rid of the gov, though.

I worry about how much damage he can do before we can get rid of him.
