Environmentalist Katie McGinty running for PA Governor

"McGinty: Trouble for Allyson" by John Baer, Daily News Political Columnist

When Philly native Katie McGinty, a former state environmental protection secretary with national credentials, told the Harrisburg Patriot-News this week she's a Democratic candidate for governor in 2014 she also sent a message to Democratic U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz. In a nutshell, that message is Schwartz will not have a clean shot at the critical statewide female vote or the essential southeastern Pennsylvania Democratic base vote. In addition, McGinty, who served as an environmental advisor to both Al Gore and President Clinton, automatically becomes a Schwartz competitor for national, state and local campaign funds from activist women donors and groups.

I think it's great that there will be some competition. Allyson Schwartz is my representative, and she's never done or said anything that impressed me. I don't know much about McGinty, but I like what I've read about her so far.

I want to know if our roads and bridges will be repaired and our water system upgraded. Is she Pro-Choice? Is she Progressive or DLC? Will she halt the fracking? Where does she stand on the lottery and privatizing the state stores? None of that information is available on her web page.

No, she will not halt fracking. She is the managing director of a consulting firm that is part of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, and is very much pro-fracking. Allyson Schwartz is pro-fracking as well.

She used to be an environmental advisor to President Clinton, and apparently she thinks she can coast on that "cred" forever.
