I work at the polls election day in PA. I had a little bit of discussions with my repub co-worker for the last 2 elections, Nov 2012 and May 2013. She (I'll use the word) relished the opportunity of asking for identification of people coming in to vote. Hint, she's a tbagger. I on the other hand felt it demeaning to people. I don't know if I can do it if the voter ID law finally goes thru.

Many years ago, when I had to do some shifts at the door of my fraternity checking IDs during parties. I made everyone show IDs, but I didn't look at them. First, the main reason to check IDs was in case a state liquor control officer was outside watching to see whether we checked IDs. Second, by that time of the night, I often couldn't focus clearly on the ID or be able to do the math.

So as a poll worker, you might volunteer to check the IDs, so you can find ways to avoid turning anyone away.

I haven't researched this matter, but mMy understanding is that people without required types of dated IDs would get a provisional ballot, but if they don't show up in person within a couple days at the courthouse with valid dated ID, their vote gets shredded.
