After charging $75 per student per activity, school finds participation drops by 1/2

The Twin Valley School District is in eastern PA. The School Board has been requiring a $75 fee per student per activity for all students in grades 9 to 12. Each student in grades 7 to 8 pays $60 per activity.

Surprise Surprise - They just discovered they there has been a 50% reduction in the number of activities that students are participating in, other than athletic teams.

This is based upon a recent article in the Reading Eagle, but I didn't find an online link. They just started a paywall. Excerpts of the article:

"While no school board members proposed nixing the fee, many pitched ways to tweak it...

Others proposed lowering the $300 maximum annual fee cap per family.

Board member Jeff Horrocks bristled at the idea, responding that district extracurricular costs shouldn't be passed onto taxpayers who are "getting nothing from these programs."
