Democrats walk out of "kangaroo court" Kane hearing

Democrats walked out of and boycotted the impeachment hearing against PA Attorney General Kane today. Republicans called security to remove Rep. Mike O'Brien, D-Philly, after he called to adjourn the hearing repeatedly. He told them "Have your kangaroo court" and left on his own.

As far as I can tell, it's about her not defending the gay marriage ban, not prosecuting 4 Democrats for a sting operation initiated by a previous AG, and something about a promotion her twin sister got, which the Ethics Committee found had broken no law. But, we all know that it's really about ideological issues and Kane's prosecution of things like Corbett's and other bigwig's handling of the Sandusky case.

4. There is very little chance of this impeachment passing the Penn. House

This is a political stunt by a homophobe who really hates gays and no one thinks that the full Penn. House will pass this stupid motion http://triblive.com/politics/politicalheadlines/6049502-74/kane-general-attorney#axzz30qnpC1nx

HARRISBURG — The ranking Democrat on the House State Government Committee said the Republican chairman's resolution to impeach Attorney General Kathleen Kane “is based on policy decisions, not wrongdoing.”

The committee plans a non-voting session on Tuesday about impeaching Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected attorney general. Any subsequent committee vote would need House approval. A House vote to impeach would trigger a trial in the Senate.

Last week, Kane declined to comment on the hearing. Chairman Daryl Metcalfe, R-Cranberry, didn't invite her to testify.

Political experts view the chances of impeachment proceeding as slim in the Republican-controlled Legislature.

“This just doesn't make sense for the long-range future of Pennsylvania. It would be a mistake,” said Rep. Mark Cohen, D-Philadelphia, the minority chairman.

There are some real nutcases in the GOP

Adams is a really weak attorney and generally stupid person. Anytime you see this idiot involved in an issue, you can be assured that there is no merit to the issue. Here is a good thread on the stupidity of Adams http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4250621

Christian Adams is really a hack and a disgrace to the legal profession

5. It was a "let's condemn gay people" hearing, with no witnesses that were relevant to impeachment

Daryl violated just about every rule of the House that exists. The Dems showed him that rules do matter.

The above link describes Daryl's hand-picked witnesses for this hearing, including a gun rights nut, a fundamentalist lawyer, and a guy involved in a "New Black Panther" mock-controversy in Philadelphia.

10. J. Christian Adams is a hack and bad lawyer

One of these witnesses is J. Christian Adams who is a hack and really bad lawyer. Christian Adams is the idiot hired by Monica Goodman and von Spakovsky to gut the DOJ voting rights section. Under Bush, the Voting Right Sections was essentially dismantled to a large degree. Adams could have never been hired without the bush appointees using political criteria to hire this idiot. Bush political appointees overruled the DOJ staff on issues such as redistricting and the Georgia voter id law. Here are some excerpts from the Inspector General report http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2013/03/justice_department_s_inspector_general_report_is_the_voting_rights_section.html

The record of political bias in the Justice Department’s voting section during President George W. Bush’s administration is well-known. (The department’s voting section is charged with enforcing the Voting Rights Act and other federal voting laws.) We know from earlier reports that election officials, including Monica Goodling, went on a hiring binge to hire conservative attorneys to work in the section and, in the words of Bush appointee Bradley Schlozman, to “gerrymander all those crazy libs right out of the section.” We know that senior Justice Department officials in the Bush era, including Hans von Spakovsky, overruled the recommendations of career civil-service attorneys in the section to approve Georgia’s controversial voter identification law. And we know that the Justice Department during the Bush era made decisions widely perceived to help Republicans, such as approving Texas’s mid-decade re-redistricting of its congressional seats to create more safe Republican seats, an effort partially overturned by the Supreme Court after finding it violated the Voting Rights Act.

There is no way that an idiot like Christian Adams could have been hired without the aid of von Spakovsky and Schlozman.

The fact that Adams is involved in this hearing says a great deal
