People keep wondering - who would keep donating to Corbett when every poll consistently shows him 20 points behind with only 2 months to go? Corbett blew millions on ads over the summer, which only caused his negatives to get worse in polls.
No one wants to waste money on a loser, and no one wants to alienate an obvious winner. However, the Republican Governors' Assn. continues to pump money into Corbett's campaign. It is controlled by Chris Christie. They just put another $3.5 million into Corbett's campaign. This was on top of $1.8 million they previously gave Corbett. The good news is that this means they have $3.5 million less to donate to key races such as the Florida Governor's race.
Millions are reportedly coming from frackers and fracking-suppliers, who are funneling their money through the Governor's Assn. Through this technique, their names do not show up on any Pa. campaign finance reports.

There have been questions about where some of the Governors' Assn. money has been coming from. A previous report questioned whether Sheldon Adelson's contributions were legal. He controls the Sands Casino, and if he made a direct donation to Corbett it would have been illegal under PA. laws that are intended to avoid political corruption from the gambling industry. Instead, the million dollar contribution was laundered through the Governors' Assn. over the course of a few days.

The same thing happened in Corbett's 2010 campaign, when frackers funneled millions to Corbett, via the Repub Governors Assn.

PA. law does not allow corporations to make direct campaign contributions to individual political campaigns, although federal courts have been overturning many of those limits.
