I thought that Pennsylvanians sent a pretty clear message back on Election Day: the state needs to be on a different path than the Corbett years.
Thats not what happened this week. Your state legislator, Rep. John Maher, just voted for a state budget that would uphold the disastrous anti-environmental legacy of Tom Corbett. Heres what they did:
Puts the brakes on much-needed protections from fracking pollution that have been in the works for years.
Stops Gov. Wolf from restarting Pennsylvanias solar energy programa program that helped grow solar by 16% in 2013.
Slashes funds to put more environmental cops on the beat in order to track down illegal polluters and make sure corporations are complying with our cornerstone environmental laws.
Keeps frackers and some of the richest corporations on the planet like ExxonMobil from paying their fair share while hardworking Pennsylvanians do their part.
Didnt they get the message?
Its shocking that the Republican leadership in Harrisburg didnt get the message that Pennsylvanians sent loud and clear: we expect someone to fix the damage done and work to tackle some of the big problems facing the Commonwealth after four years of Tom Corbett. That includes protecting our environment and representing our values.
Will your legislators fight for environmental programs to protect the parks we love, the streams that give us drinking water, and the air we breathe?
Will they support efforts by polluters to dismantle much-needed protections from fracking waste? Or will they side with every-day folks like me and youand the constituents that theyre supposed to represent?
Will they get serious about making Pennsylvania a clean energy leader and tackling global warming with clean solar and wind power? Or will they continue to side with the fossil fuel corporations, whose pollution is driving extreme weather events like Superstorm Sandy, extreme summer heat and flooding?
You and I know that the answer is obviousso send a message to your legislator today: Go back to Harrisburg and get the job done!
Sincerely,
David

(18,219 posts)is to vote out the Republicans who are controlling the legislature. Without that, they will never get it through their thick skulls.
But good luck with that. Gerrymandering has made that almost impossible. I don't know how we can ever reverse this, since we would have to be in control before we could make the necessary changes.
