Kathleen Kane's driver pleads not guilty to charges he searched emails
NORRISTOWN State Attorney General Kathleen Kane's security detail chief and driver, Patrick Reese, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he violated a court order by accessing emails that were part of a secret grand jury investigation.
Montgomery County Judge William R. Carpenter, overseeing the grand jury system in southeastern Pennsylvania, had issued the order after learning that the names of witnesses were well known in the attorney general's office and becoming concerned they were being intimidated. His Aug. 27 order said employees in Kane's office could not obtain information regarding the grand jury probe.
The allegations against Kane include that she ordered Reese and another staff member to snoop on employee emails during the grand jury investigation.
Reese, a former police chief of Dunmore Borough in Lackawanna County, looked pensive as he sat in the court gallery with a half dozen reporters before his arraignment Tuesday. He said little when he appeared before Carpenter, who allowed him to leave the court on $5,000 unsecured bail.
