OSHA nails N.J. contractor doing Lehigh Valley site work for fall hazards

Federal regulators have accused a New Jersey construction company of failing to provide fall protection for employees at four Lehigh Valley job sites.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed nearly $292,000 in penalties against Station Builders Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., the agency said Monday in a news release.

OSHA said it issued three willful, four repeat and six serious safety citations last month to Station Builders after conducting inspections at the following sites: Maple Shade Estates, Lot 36, a new home development in Bethlehem and Palmer townships; 2020 Washington Blvd. in Wilson; 1325 Chelsea Ave. in Bethlehem; and 617-619 N. Irving St., Allentown. OSHA spokeswoman Joanna Hawkins said the work sites were either for single family homes or townhouses, and Station Builders was hired as a subcontractor.

The company did not provide fall protection at the worksites and received the willful citations, according to OSHA. The repeat citations involved the employer's failure to provide personal protective equipment, improper use of portable ladders, and to conduct frequent and regular worksite inspections.
