Penn State fraternity death case set to resume Thursday
BELLEFONTE - The preliminary hearing for 16 of the 18 Penn State students charged in the February death of fraternity pledge Timothy Piazza will resume Thursday morning at the Centre County Courthouse here.
Two defendants have waived their rights to a hearing.
The hearing will resume Thursday with the cross-examination of State College Police Det. David Scicchitano, to date the only witness in the case.
By week's end, however, it is quite likely that Magisterial District Judge Allen Sinclair will have ruled on whether or not the Piazza case is ripe for a criminal trial.
Piazza, a 19-year-old Penn State sophomore from Lebanon, N.J., died Feb. 4 of complications from injuries he suffered little more than 24 hours earlier during a Feb. 2 bid acceptance party at his hoped-for fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, on the heart of Penn State's University Park campus.
