Tax evasion testimony details (Amarillo) doctor's apocalypse bunker

A federal judge on Monday denied an Amarillo anesthesiologist’s request to be freed on bond while he awaits sentencing in a tax evasion case.

After a nearly two-hour hearing, U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson denied Edgar Lockett’s request for a cash or personal bond.

Lockett, 70, was convicted Sept. 13 on six tax evasion counts after authorities said he failed to pay $1.4 million in taxes and hid money in accounts listed under his deceased father’s name.

During Monday’s hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Drake told Robinson that Lockett had not been forthcoming to the court with information about his assets, property he and his mother purchased in Panama and an underground bunker he owns.
