I was reading mysanantonio.com tonight and saw an article with a rather remarkable claim: that Ted Cruz was still popular (if you call 40% popular) in TX compared to the rest of the US. The article is here:

I went to look for the polling data they quote in the article and the Pew data they use nationally was done last week, where it showed Cruz's popularity had plunged since June among non Tea-Party Rs.
Then they go on to imply that Cruz's favorability hasn't taken much of a hit in the state, citing the "latest poll" from the UT-Texas Tribune. Well you can go to the Tribune polling website and the latest polling they have on Cruz was taken in (wait for it.....) last June. And in case you think they have access to a new unpublished poll the numbers the article cites exactly match the Tribune's June numbers.
Their June numbers aren't all that far off from Pew's June results, at least among Republicans, and to make the statement in the article "But Cruz remains strong in Texas" is deceiving at best. Disappointing reporting from a paper that I thought had improved in recent years.

(9,037 posts)It really makes you wonder about rural Texans. The big cities in Texas often go Democratic, even if the GOP seats are gerrymandered. I find it a little hard to swallow that the rural folks can out-gun city-dwellers, but that seems to be consistently happening. Unless the voting machines are somewhat rigged, which would not surprise me. How is it that the big cities usually elect Democratic mayors, and yet these GOP'ers retain their seats?
