Houston Harris County - Strong early voting totals set new mark in fifth day

Strong early voting totals set new mark in fifth day

Early voting tallies show no signs of slowing down, with Friday’s 7,110 in-person vote total the best day yet. Another 1,020 voters returned mail ballots.

Voting is underway for Houston mayor between incumbent Annise Parker and top challenger Ben Hall, as well as for city council races, school board and community college trustee races, state constitutional amendments and two high-profile bond votes, a renovation of the Astrodome and a long-discussed city-county inmate processing center.

Here are the totals from Friday. For a listing of all early voting locations countywide and their hours of operation, click here. For a sample ballot, visit the County Clerk’s website.

The top four early-voting locations have been consistent (though swapping positions) all week: Metropolitan Multi-Service Center on West Gray (664 in-person voters Friday), followed by Trini Mendenhall Sosa Community Center in the Spring Branch area (400), Bayland Park Community Center in southwest Houston (349), and the Fiesta Mart at Kirby and the South Loop (344).

So far, 42,545 people have voted in person or by mail. That compares to 18,689 through four days in 2011, 23,167 through four days in 2009, and 14,322 through four days in 2007.
