Texas to celebrate 176th birthday

WASHINGTON — A Texas-sized birthday party will be held here this weekend at one of the state’s most historic places.

The 176th anniversary of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence will be recognized during a free two-day festival Saturday and Sunday at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site.

The festival will be held from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. All admission fees will be waived during the celebration weekend.

This celebration brings the Republic of Texas era to life. A special commemorative program Sunday afternoon at the Tom and Jane Bullock Amphitheater will begin at 1:30 p.m.

I've scoured several other news sources to find other articles in relation to our birthday, but I could have missed some listings. Feel free to post those events to this thread. While it is a Lone Star celebration, please keep those cervezas to a minimum if you are driving.

Please also keep in mind that if you have to contact any state offices today, they will be operating with skeleton work crews since it is designated as a state holiday.
