Abortion doctor’s license pulled under new law
The Texas Medical Board has temporarily suspended the license of a Houston doctor who performed abortions without obtaining admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, as required under a state law that took effect in November.
Dr. Theodore Herring Jr.s medical license was suspended without notice after he unlawfully performed 268 abortion procedures without holding active admitting privileges, the board ruled Thursday night.

Last Tuesday, the state health department submitted a complaint to the Texas Medical Board, which temporarily suspended Herrings license two days later.
The Department of State Health Services also revoked the abortion facility license for the clinic. It was the first abortion facility penalized by the agency for not having admitting privileges, spokeswoman Carrie Williams said.
