Some candidates question Democratic effort to shape a Texas ticket
Kinky Friedman opened his remarks to the Texas A&M College Democrats with some well-worn drollery.
Hello Im David Dewhurst, said Friedman, dressed in his trademark black cowboy duds. After the laughter subsided, Well hell, Im 69 years old, though I read at the 71-year-old level, and I got my last will and testament worked out now, and when I die Im to be cremated and the ashes are to be thrown into Rick Perrys hair.
Friedman, best known as a singer and comedian, is running for the Democratic nomination for agriculture commissioner, his third attempt at statewide office. He laid out the spiritual overlay of his campaign in College Station on Monday: I have framed it as a referendum to legalize pot and hemp in the state of Texas.
And he confronted the most common knock on him: The party insiders say, Hes not serious; Kinkys not serious.
