Gynecologist remains at Amarillo Northwest amid patient sex, neglect allegations

An Amarillo gynecologist accused of medical neglect and having sexual relationships with multiple patients is in good standing at Northwest Texas Healthcare System.

“Dr. Douglas Shelton is currently a member of the active medical staff of Northwest Texas Healthcare System and is a member in good standing with OB/GYN privileges,” spokeswoman Caytie Martin said by email Wednesday afternoon.

According to a complaint filed in May by the Texas Medical Board, Shelton engaged in sexual relationships with four patients. The complaint also states he was negligent in performing medical services and failed to safeguard against potential complications.

When asked if Northwest administrators were aware of the allegations against Shelton, Martin said, “Northwest Texas Healthcare System receives routine communication from the Texas Medical Board.”
