Greg Abbott Continues His Lack of Support for the Women of Texas

With missteps and
faux pas galore, Greg Abbotts campaign is looking more and more like a replay of Clayton Williams. Remember Williams line back in 1990 when he suggested that victims of rape should ''just relax and enjoy it.'' It would be hyperbole to suggest that Sundays incident was as bad as the Williams statement, but it does emphasize Abbotts continued disregard for womens issues in Texas.
The Texas Equal Pay Act mirrors the Lilly Ledbetter Act and remarkably, the TEPA was passed by a GOP-dominated legislature, only to be shotdown by Governor Rick Perrys veto. During his Sunday appearance on WFAAs Inside Texas Politics, Abbott was asked if he would also have vetoed the bill. He didnt answer. He danced and dodged the question saying that current state laws protected against pay discrimination. I suppose if anyone comments on that, we can have a rehash of the stormy Latina Wife controversy.
I fully expect women to be paid what men are paid, was about all Mr. Abbott said.
Mr Abbott: What we expect and what we actually receive are two different matters. Some businesses and corporations will always refuse to meet what you expect, unless they are legally forced to do so. Thats why Texas must have a law to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work.
