Greg Abbott Continues His Lack of Support for the Women of Texas

By Carol Morgan

With missteps and faux pas galore, Greg Abbott’s campaign is looking more and more like a replay of Clayton Williams. Remember Williams’ line back in 1990 when he suggested that victims of rape should ''just relax and enjoy it.'' It would be hyperbole to suggest that Sunday’s incident was as bad as the Williams’ statement, but it does emphasize Abbott’s continued disregard for women’s issues in Texas.

The Texas Equal Pay Act mirrors the Lilly Ledbetter Act and remarkably, the TEPA was passed by a GOP-dominated legislature, only to be shotdown by Governor Rick Perry’s veto. During his Sunday appearance on WFAA’s Inside Texas Politics, Abbott was asked if he would also have vetoed the bill. He didn’t answer. He danced and dodged the question saying that current state laws protected against pay discrimination. He dragged his wife and daughter into campaign again, prefacing his remarks with “as the father of a daughter, as the husband of…” I suppose if anyone comments on that, we can have a rehash of the stormy Latina Wife controversy.

“I fully expect women to be paid what men are paid,” was about all Mr. Abbott said.

Mr Abbott: What we expect and what we actually receive are two different matters. Some businesses and corporations will always refuse to meet what you expect, unless they are legally forced to do so. That’s why Texas must have a law to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work.

Greg is making a ton of mistakes. First, Greg is not in the same league as Goodhair for being on the campaign trail. Goodhair is an idiot but he can read a speech well. Greg can not.

Greg is pushing women away in a number of ways including the use of #abortionbarbie by his supporters. Greg is really pushing these attacks and I have to think that this will alienate women.

Finally, Greg made a giant mistake appearing with Ted Nugent. Nugent hates women and the feeling is mutual.
