Wandering cattle force temporary closure of I-35 in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN — Whoa there. A few dazed and confused cattle roaming onto Interstate 35 near Georgetown after a trailer overturned caused police to close down part of the highway early this afternoon. It’s open now.

The small trailer carrying the animals flipped around noon on the frontage road at the southern edge of Georgetown near a Mac Haik Dodge dealership, said Roland Waits, a spokesman for the Georgetown Police Department.

“The police had to close Interstate 35 northbound on and off a few times just to keep the animals from getting whacked,” said Waits. The driver wasn’t injured, he said. There’s no word yet on how authorities managed to rustle up the herd.
