A good article.
The bills, laws and administrative rules some of them tried before shake up fundamental components of state election systems, including the days and times polls are open and the locations where people vote.

(14,337 posts)Florida last election was talking abuout that one. "If people at the polls need photo ID, why are Absentee Ballots mailed to a person's address with no ID? Then people would have to go down to the Elections office themselves to request it? Well, Florida has a lot of Seniors who might not be able to do that.
Just got my form in the mail to request a ballot for the Primary and Governor's election this November. Yes, I am sending it in. Very bad experience at the polls in Florida and don't want to do that again.

(6,960 posts).... has anyone done this officially?
The number of registered voters times, for instance, five minutes to vote, equals how long polling places have to be open to accommodate a 100 percent turnout.
Of course, maybe a longer ballot means more than five minutes; in low population areas there has to be a minimum i.e., 7AM - 7PM. And this just applies where people still have to go to the polls.
In Colorado, we now have all mail-in balloting (and election day centralized polling place centers). This eliminates all this manipulation of polling place hours.
It seems evident to me that comparing the number of registered voters with hours and places should make it clear that the Repuglicans are not making it possible for all Americans to vote.
In a country of 310 million people it sure seems to me that the idea of everyone going to the polls on the same day is certainly obsolete -- early voting and mail/absentee voting is an absolute necessity.
Mail-in voting is more 21st century (however, if the Repuglicans and the Obama administration succeed in cutting back the U.S. Postal Service hours and Saturday delivery -- this is going to be a problem, too).
