Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The City of League City is spending about $20,000 to help pay for a benefit for wounded veterans headlined by the virulently racist and sexist Ted Nugent on Saturday, April 12 at South Shore Harbour Resort. For three months, there has been a lot of local criticism over Nugent's appearance and the City Council's financial support for an event headlined by him. Numerous letters in the local newspaper have pointed out that Nugent's involvement tarnishes an otherwise worthwhile project and denounced his recent comments about President Obama being a "subhuman mongrel" and undocumented immigrants deserving to be treated like "indentured servants." Two newspaper columns by David are attached.

We are organizing a demonstration against Nugent's appearance at the event. The protest will begin at 6 pm on Saturday, April 12, on the public sidewalks outside South Shore Harbour Resort, 2500 South Shore Drive, in League City. It is unconscionable that Texas Republicans are using an open chauvinist like Ted Nugent to mobilize their “base” and exemplify their “patriotism.” But the rest of us don't have to remain silent. All democratic-minded people in the Houston-Galveston area have an interest in challenging and overcoming the vicious racism, sexism, and violence-mongering for which Nugent has become infamous. So we urge you to join us in protesting against Nugent and the League City politicians helping to pay for the event he is headlining. We will have a sound system, a sound permit, and signs.
