Why Hasn't Greg Abbott Denounced Cliven Bundy Yet?

To their credit, many Republicans who initially supported Cliven Bundy's heavily armed refusal to allow the federal government to enforce federal law on federal lands backed away from the mini-militia man after he went on a truly horrendous racist rant.

Not Greg Abbott. He was asked about Cliven Bundy by Sean Hannity and chose to stay silent rather than condemn his remarks.

Abbott initially sent supportive tweets about the Bundy stand-off on federal lands, and equated the situation to Benghazi. (Nope, I'm not kidding.)

Abbott initially sent two tweets in support of Bundy. One is shown at right. In the other, he stated that "We should've used same effort to get Americans out of Benghazi as we do getting ranchers out of Nev."

My guess is that Abbot will remain silent on the subject because he's going piss voters off whatever he says.

He might be pig ignorant but his handlers probably aren't.

The GOP in Texas relies on the teabaggers and the teabaggers are all racists who agree with Bundy. Greg is too much of a coward to distance himself from either Ted Nugent or Bundy for the exact same reason. Greg is afraid of irking a portion of his racist base.

Bundy’s speech also seemingly derailed Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s (R) apparent attempt to link his gubernatorial campaign to the Bunkerville camp; Abbott had allegedly written a letter to the BLM accusing it of “threatening” to seize land along the Red River in northern Texas. But after being contacted regarding the rancher’s “Negro” remarks, a spokesperson for Abbott was quoted as saying that Abbott’s letter “was regarding a dispute in Texas and is in no way related to the dispute in Nevada.”
