Lone Star Circle of Care Gets $1M Lifeline
CENTRAL TEXAS -- Struggling health care organization Lone Star Circle of Care got a shot in the arm today from a longtime partner in the form of $1 million. St. David's Foundation has asked Lone Star, in exchange for the funding, to provide it with a sustainability plan in the coming weeks and Lone Star has agreed to complete transparency and accountability, said Rhonda Mundhenk, Lone Star's interim CEO. In the past month, Lone Star has laid off 185 employees almost 30 percent of its workforce closed clinics and reduced its services in efforts to regain its financial footing. St. David's has given Lone Star $22.5 million in grants since 2006, said Lisa Trahan, the foundations director of communications. In a press release today, Ms. Mundhenk expressed her appreciation for the Foundation's generosity and said additional funding grants are being considered.
