I wouldn't put San Antonio on that list, though.

I think a lot of them look alike, too.

I visited a friend there in the mid-90s and the only night life that I found was at the Caravan of Dreams which I didn't think was very lively at all. We went out for breakfast that morning and it was at a dive that made the Waffle House look good.

I found it very vibrant the few times I was there (including boot camp)

SA has been ruined by urban sprawl and freeways. When I went to college there many years ago, it was a sleepy town with big empty freeways, not many tall buildings.

To see the real Spanish heritage you have to go down town and see the Alamo and El Mercado and find the good Tex-Mex restaurants. I recommend Taco Garage, on Broadway near the northeast corner of Loop 410.

The Riverwalk is a tourist trap.

I lived in the Olmos neighborhood in 1987 just west of Alamo Heights. The only thing I found to do was rolling around the older neighborhoods in Alamo Heights and the occasional visit to the Sunken Gardens. I was disappointed the couple of times that I went to dance clubs--at least compared to Austin.
