Texas Company Could Bury 1st Nuke Waste in April

Trucks carrying low-level radioactive waste from 38 states will likely begin traveling Texas highways as early as April.

They'll be bound for a dump site near the New Mexico border.

<<snip>>

The waste's burial will end a years-long effort by Waste Control Specialists to win permission from Texas officials to accept the waste at a 1,340-acre tract.

The company's majority owner is big-time political contributor Harold Simmons. Opponents say his Dallas-based company has benefited from connections to top Republicans. They include Gov. Rick Perry, who makes appointments to the state's environmental commission that regulates the site.

Literally this is going to make us all sick.

on Harold Simmons and I can only wish him the very worst in life. May he repaid a thousand times for all the evil he's brought upon the powerless communities in West Texas.

The dump is 30 miles from my front door step. Our family has been here a century. After the groundwater is destroyed, we'll have to go somewhere else.

Not going until then. I plan to attend Simmons' funeral, the damned old bastard.

If only I could find the portrait in his attic...
