Sessions mounts bid for House Majority Leader; Hensarling also eyes the job

Dallas Rep. Pete Sessions is already angling for the No. 2 slot in the House, in the aftermath of Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s stunning ouster in his Virginia primary Tuesday night.

A Sessions aide confirmed that he is calling and emailing GOP lawmakers today. Politico called it “an aggressive play for the No. 2 spot.”

Another Dallas congressman, Rep. Jeb Hensarling, says he’s weighing a run for a top leadership post in the House, presumable the same job Sessions is going after,

“I am humbled by the many people who have approached me about serving our Republican Conference in a different capacity in the future,” Hensarling said through an aide. “There are many ways to advance the causes of freedom and free enterprise, and I am prayerfully considering the best way I can serve in those efforts.”
