Parched Robert Lee given $500K for water pipeline

A $500,000 grant for emergency funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development will help the city of Robert Lee pay for a 12-mile pipeline to water sources near Bronte.

Other agencies providing funds for the $1.5 million pipeline project include the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas Water Development Board.

According to the news release, emergency community water grants "are provided to assist rural communities that have experienced a significant decline in the quantity or quality of drinking water due to an emergency."

The city's regular source of water, E.V. Spence Reservoir on the Colorado River, is essentially dry, said Robert Lee Mayor John Jacobs.
