Michael Young named sole finalist for president of Texas A&M
Texas A&M University System regents voted Tuesday evening to name Michael Young, president of the University of Washington, as sole finalist for president of the College Station campus.
Youngs appointment is all but certain to be firmed up by the Board of Regents after a 21-day waiting period required under state law.
A Harvard-educated lawyer who once clerked for then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Young has led the university in Seattle since July 2011. He has also been president of the University of Utah, dean of the George Washington University Law School, professor of law at Columbia University, and deputy undersecretary and ambassador for trade and environmental affairs in the U.S. State Department.
He would take the reins at A&M at a time of change for the campus, which in recent years has seen its academic portfolio expand with the acquisition of a law school in Fort Worth and the regents decision to put the systems health science center under the universitys wing.
