Cleveland ISD students injured in bus crash on Eastex Freeway (US 59)

Multiple injuries have been reported at a Houston freeway traffic accident involving a bus from the Cleveland Independent School District.

According to the Houston Fire Department, which responded to the accident, 18 patients were transported from the scene on U.S. 59 at Will Clayton Parkway. The patients, ages 13 to 16, were taken to area hospitals "for precautionary reasons," officials said in a news release.

The accident, which happened at about 2:30 p.m., involved a school bus and an 18-wheeler, the fire department reported.

Pennee Hall, a Cleveland school district assistant superintendent, said 57 Junior ROTC high school students were on a field trip to Johnson Space Center. As far as she knew, Hall said Tuesday afternoon, no one was seriously injured.
