Either you meant to ask that I may support some Texans in their wish to secede,

or you meant to say that I support the desire to actually secede?

Well, I dare say that you don't know me too well to ask this at all. While I haven't been all that active in this group in the last year or so, you'll likely find that the "regulars" do know me well enough to never ask such a thing

whether in jest or seriousness.

It's especially stupid to joke about it on DU because all too many (like myself) will assume you're being serious about it and react appropriately. I would also add that it brings out all of the Texas-haters, and we end up in fights when we should be working together, as fellow Liberals.

If you need to know any more about me and how I react to subjects like these, note this: I will defend Texas against the bashers every time I see such rhetoric and insults.

When you said we aren't a happy family, did you mean DU or Texans or Americans in general?

I'm still not clear on that.

in the context that we still have members that would just as soon break up the Union in order to rid themselves of states (and people) they don't like. Any time some idiot is quoted for the secession of Texas, or shown as in the case of the agent with the bumpersticker, the haters come out in favor of this stupid idea, as if it could really work. Never mind that it would crash the economy of the entire nation with the elimination of their second-largest economy...

It doesn't matter what we say. There are still going to be those who will think that we are bunch of backwards, racist, rednecks.

I have to wonder how they react to the conservatives in their states? Would they be just fine with outsiders telling them to leave the state so the conservatives could take over? I think not. So why is it okay to suggest the same to us?

I'll continue to pay my share, because there are still those communities (like this one ) and individuals that make my stay here memorable and worthwhile

I can put up with the hate, and often counter it, without wanting to leave. I also don't venture into GD often enough to catch it all
