Texas stores pulling all Blue Bell ice cream products

Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries has issued a voluntary recall of all its products out of concern that the products could be contaminated with listeria bacteria, the company announced Monday.

The recall affects all products currently on the market, including ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks, made at all facilities, the company said.

"We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe," said Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and president, in a statement.

Blue Bell said Tuesday's decision was made after half gallon samples of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream produced on March 17 and 27 tested positive for the listeria bacteria.

considering that the first recall involved the creamery in Oklahoma while this one is for the creamery in Brenham.

I just went to the store this evening, but bought the H-E-B brand instead of Blue Bell. It's about 80 cents cheaper for a half gallon. It's odd that the positive tests are also occurring in the non-dairy products (although they are produced off the same product line as the dairy products). At least there weren't any additional cases of poisoning being reported though.

BLUE BELL CREAMERIES VOLUNTARILY EXPANDS RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL OF ITS PRODUCTS DUE TO POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK

BRENHAM, Texas, April 20, 2015 – Blue Bell Ice Cream of Brenham, Texas, is voluntarily recalling all of its products currently on the market made at all of its facilities including ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

I have some in the freezer as we speak but the recall is not in my state so it will be fine. I love their ice cream. Best out there.

The creameries in Texas and Oklahoma have both been found to have issues. The one in Alabama is an auxiliary facility so you may be okay if you live along the East Coast.

ETA: I use to live in Brenham during 2012 and 2013 so it is sad to see them have problems.
