Cops and Race talk prompts agitation, little consensus at Texas Tech

Tensions were high during a discussion of law enforcement and race relations at Texas Tech Monday night.

PoliTech, a Tech student political awareness group, invited local political and community leaders along with law enforcement to its Cops and Race panel discussion at the Student Union Building and, at times, panelists and the crowd were flustered on topics.

Prominent coverage in the media prompted PoliTech to hold the discussion, Raul Cevallos an organizer with the group said, especially because national cable outlets can be biased.

“The media likes to exploit the issue,” he said.

Panelists in the forum Monday weren’t much more calm or unbiased than many talking heads on television.
