My neighborhood and my son's school are on lockdown

HOUSTON – Klein High School was put on lockdown Wednesday afternoon while police searched a nearby neighborhood for a murder suspect.

Investigators said there were reports that the suspect, wanted in connection with the shooting death of 31-year-old Sidney Ross, was in the area, so they launched a search and put the school on lockdown as a precaution.

Ross was killed in a drive-by shooting in the 4400 block of Ward on January 3, 2012.

Police released surveillance video of the shooting on Tuesday, hoping for additional information from the public.

It was not immediately clear if the video prompted the tip on the suspect’s whereabouts.

Kudos to the cops for locking the schools down before going after the suspect. The place is crawling with police dogs and cars. Lots of gullies. 6 helicopters. Crazy.

one helicopter in particular just hovered over our house. This was about 9pm.

We live in the city, but have an enclosed courtyard and lots and lots of trees on the property. After about five minutes, an officer with a dog appeared at our gate and asked to search the yard - apparently the helicopter couldn't see through the trees well enough to determine if there was someone hiding there. We were happy to oblige - I was just about freaked out enough to ask him to check under our beds . . .

Still don't know who they were searching for or if they found them, but assume it was a fairly serious situation given the response and the amount of armament on display.

Scary stuff sometimes. Hang in there.

I'm in L.A., and while neither of my sons' schools have been locked down, certainly we've had our share of "buzz by's," hovering helicopters, etc...

And heck, actually, in my former "nicer" neighborhood (where the Ex now has the house!), one former neighbor plunged his truck into our front yard after trying to do himself in (with a gun!) in front of his Ex's house! Fun times! (Gee, hadn't thought on that on in years!)

I was in town this morning and the street right in front of the lofts was blocked off - and it looked like they were pulling up a truck out of the bayou or something. I was just going past on Allen to get to Studemont. Looked like police cars and a lot of activity ...
