Couple in their 80s found shot to death in San Marcos hospital

A married couple in their 80s were found shot to death in a San Marcos hospital room Tuesday morning, police said.

The deaths of the couple — an 87-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman whose identities have not been released — are being treated as a murder-suicide by investigators. Police said no suspects are being sought and the shooter is no longer a public threat.

The couple was discovered in the woman’s room by the couple’s daughter sometime around 7:50 a.m. at the Central Texas Medical Center, San Marcos Police Chief Chase Stapp said.

The woman was being treated for a serious medical condition, but the chief declined to speculate on whether the shooting was related to her illness. Stapp said investigators didn’t find a note.
