Cedar Hill nurse admits $375M home health care fraud

A Cedar Hill nurse who co-owned a home health company pleaded guilty Tuesday to her role in a $375 million fraud conspiracy, federal prosecutors say.

Pat Akamnonu, 52, admitted conspiracy to commit health care fraud, according to a written statement from John Parker, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Akamnonu faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been set.

Akamnonu and her husband, Cyprian Akamnonu, were the co-owners of Ultimate Care Home Health Services, which billed Medicare more than $43 million for unnecessary or unfulfilled nursing care, said Kathy Colvin, spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office.
