Paxton to County Clerks: Wait for Direction on Gay Marriage

If the U.S. Supreme Court rules in the coming days that same-sex marriage bans are unconstitutional, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wants county clerks to hold off on issuing marriage licenses to such couples until his office has given them direction.

"I remain prayerful that the Court will heed millennia of family tradition, Judeo-Christian instruction and common sense and will respect the role of states," Paxton said in a statement Thursday. "But whatever the ruling, I would recommend that all County Clerks and Justices of the Peace wait for direction and clarity from this office about the meaning of the Court's opinion and the rights of Texans under the law."

Earlier this year, the high court took up four gay marriage cases out of a Cincinnati-based federal appeals court. Its decision, which is expected Friday or Monday, could legalize gay marriage nationwide, overturning Texas' long-standing ban on gay marriage.

A separate legal challenge to Texas' gay marriage ban, which has been on the books for a decade, is making its way through the courts. The Texas case, which was brought by two same-sex couples, is pending before the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

coming out of the closet (so to speak) I was a bit puzzled over things like gay divorce. It took me much longer than it should have to realize that it shouldn't be all that hard to make the legal language gender neutral.

If people want to get married, they should be allowed to. One person at a time. Some minimum age needs to be in effect. Keep it within the species. I think that covers it.

If I didn't know you, then I would lump in with the other concerned Christian do-gooders.

I would much rather marry one of the cats that have been my friends over the last few years than any human being that I know. I always win the arguments and I receive much more affection and understanding from my feline friends.

The biggest concern is that another cat would get jealous when I had more than one cat in my life and claw me to death. I guess that is me though--a fickle and two-timing towel.

because I post about the El Paso Chihuahuas baseball team in the Sports Group to amuse El Supremo. I'm committed to my felines and I don't want to hear any yapping mongrel late at night. Besides, the dog has bad breath.

How about you two alleged public servants pull your heads out of your asses and obey the Constitution Of The United States, circa June 26, 2015?

(Glad to hear that urban court clerks are ignoring the state's "leadership" and issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.)

Lots of couples got licences today. The ones who weren't planning a more formal ceremony got married up then and there.
