but he came in amazingly strong at 74 % of the vote

SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Sylvia Romo has conceded to longtime Austin Congressman Lloyd Doggett in the Democratic race for the newly-drawn District 35.

Doggett received the call on his cell phone early Tuesday night with less than 10 percent of precincts accounted for.

As of 8:50 p.m., Doggett led the race with 74 percent of votes; followed by Romo with 24 percent; and Maria Luisa Alvarado with 6 percent.

Redistricting played a big role in the new U.S. House District 35 race. The district runs from Downtown Austin to Downtown San Antonio.

It was expected to be a close match-up between incumbent Lloyd Doggett, from Austin, and Bexar County Tax Assessor Sylvia Romo of San Antonio.

But Romo conceded to Doggett Tuesday evening as his lead became insurmountable.

I too was re-districted out of his district and couldn't even vote for him. And once again I will consider him my Congressman.

Thank you Austin voters!

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett breezed past two challengers Tuesday in the Democratic primary despite being forced to compete on an unfamiliar battlefield.

In incomplete and unofficial returns, Doggett was holding a wide edge in both his native Travis County and in Bexar County, where he faced down a challenge fromthe county tax assessor-collector, Sylvia Romo.

Doggett was rolling up just under 70 percent to Romo's 25 percent. Longshot Maria Luisa Alvarado was far off the pace in the three person race. Romo conceded the race before 9 p.m.

It's been a long time since Lloyd was my congressman, but he still has my respect. Considering who my congress critter is, I say that he still is my congressman and one of the best that we have in the state.

and realized that I couldn't vote for Lloyd anymore. I also am worried that there were 2 Repuke election judges there to our one Dem. election judge. Anyway I am smiling knowing that Doggett still won without my vote. Damn redistricting!

Around my neighborhood there were tons of Doggett signs. Where a friend of mine lives, every other house on the block had a Doggett sign in their yard.

Six lessons from Tuesday’s Texas primary

4. Republicans should just give up on destroying the career of Lloyd Doggett.

It’s just not worth it.

After the veteran Democrat Austin Democrat crushed two primary rivals and won the Democratic nomination to represent the new, majority Latino 35th Congressional District, one Capitol wag compared the 65-year-old Doggett to Moby Dick and Texas Republican leaders to Captain Ahab, whose obsession with killing the Great White Whale consumed him.

This is the second consecutive redistricting process that saw Texas Republicans destroy Doggett’s old district — last time it was the 10th District, this time the 25th. So Doggett once again confounded them by moving to a new district designed to elect a minority representative … and won the primary himself.

All the Republicans have done is to anger the Great White Whale of Texas politics. They’d do better to leave him alone.

It’s just not worth it.

Go get'em Lloyd "Moby Dick" Doggett!!

Lloyd!
