Family fumes over relative buried in wrong grave

YORKTOWN - Twenty-five years ago, Lee Roy Coffman was buried in the wrong plot.

When Coffman died in his late 30s of a heart attack in New Mexico, his relatives had his body brought back to Texas. In a small, rural town cemetery, Coffman was buried next to people he grew up with.

Looking at the headstones surrounding his uncle's grave, Ray Carter Jr., of Inez, pointed out the graves of classmates and neighbors.

"This is kind of like home," he said.

But when Carter approached the city of Yorktown, which owns Westside Cemetery, about putting grave curbing around his family's plot, he discovered his uncle was buried in a walkway.
