FORT WORTH -- Two of Tarrant Countys elected officials no longer will encourage employees to donate to or help raise money for the United Way of Tarrant County.
They say the social services organization that raises money for local nonprofits has ties to Planned Parenthood, although they acknowledge United Way doesnt contribute any of its own money to the womens health and birth control center.
This is a stain on what is otherwise a very worthy organization, said Tax Assessor Collector Ron Wright, whose office will not raise money for the United Way this year. People with United Way remind me of the enormous good they do in the community. And they do. Supporters of Planned Parenthood will say it too does enormous good in the community as well.
I will remind all of them that Hitler made the trains run on time, he said. The good thats being done doesnt compensate for the evil thats being done by Planned Parenthood.

(4,695 posts)denounce Planned Parenthood based on what?
I want a tax collector for the county to handle my paperwork/county business honestly and without political motivation. Tarrant County Tax Assessor Collector Ron Wright is not paid by the Republican Party to stand up and denounce and defame a charity based on lies coming from the GOP. What is his real motivation?

(4,695 posts)WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Thursday that the GOP's investigation into Planned Parenthood's use of federal funds hasn't turned up anything.
"Did I look at the finances and have a hearing specifically as to the revenue portion and how they spend? Yes. Was there any wrongdoing? I didn't find any," he said during a Judiciary Committee hearing on the family planning provider.
Chaffetz, a candidate for House speaker, grilled Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards during a five-hour hearing last week. He questioned her salary, asked about the organization's expenses and revenues, and pressed Richards on why the group had revenue of $127 million last year if it's a nonprofit. (Nonprofits put their revenues back into their programs.)
