Black Eyed Pea Restaurants declare bankruptcy

Black Eyed Pea restaurants in Texas declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The restaurant on Cedar Springs Road is the original Black Eyed Pea that has been in that location since 1975. In the mid-80s, the restaurant doubled in size into its current space. That restaurant is rumored to be closing sometime in 2016 along with other bars and restaurants on that block as part of an expansion of the Melrose Hotel.

Over the past two years, 15 Black Eyed Pea restaurants in Texas have closed.

The company also owns The Dixie House in Lakewood Shopping Center. Both the Cedar Springs restaurant and the Lakewood location are expected to continue operation. Chapter 11 allows a company to continue operation while reorganizing.
