Lawsuit to remove Dallas DA Susan Hawk to move forward

The county attorney appointed to handle the lawsuit to remove Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk has agreed to take on the case, paving the way for the suit to move forward.

Ellis County and District Attorney Patrick Wilson plans to file paperwork this week asking the judge to issue a citation, which would formally serve Hawk with the lawsuit. He will also request a pre-trial hearing on the matter, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Wilson, who was appointed to handle the case by Dallas County commissioners last month, confirmed Wednesday that he plans to file the paperwork by the end of the week.

Wilson’s decision marks the latest development in the high-profile and unusual effort to oust a sitting elected official from office. Controversy has surrounded the case since fired prosecutor Cindy Stormer filed the petition to remove Hawk in October, citing Hawk’s recent struggles with mental illness as a factor.
