AUSTIN The Texas Exes, a UT-Austin alumni group, apologized Wednesday for calling Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia remarks during the Fisher vs. UT oral arguments earlier this month racist and offensive.
During the oral argument hearing on Dec. 9, at which UT-Austin was defending its use of race in admissions, Scalia said there are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into The University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a slower-track school where they do well.
He added most of the black scientists in this country dont come from schools like the University of Texas and that they come from lesser schools where they do not feel that theyre
being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them.
His remarks were met by wide-ranging outrage, including many African-American UT graduates who touted their successes on Twitter with the hashtag #StayMadAbby a reference to Abigail Fisher, the plaintiff in the case.

(62,534 posts)UT is a big republican strong hold in the higher echelons, at least in certain financial circles and their legal education dept. (lots of repuke lawyers are cranked out of there every year)
it doesn't take a huge leap of faith to think that the UT powers that be slapped down those who made these comments to make sure the money keeps flowing in from the repuke donors.
