(3,859 posts)My vote is irrelevant...redistricting and the Texas Democratic Party made sure of that...

(9,128 posts)I may be also be discouraged about the redistricting and the current status of the Texas Democratic Party, but I see voting as a duty, if not to the present , then to the future.
Non-voting can understandably be seen as silent compliance, and cynical Texas Republican Tea-baggers see it as such. My vote is a way of saying "NO, I DO NOT AGREE!" whenever the next crop of GOP polls thinks of some new way to Phillips-head us.
And statewide races are important. No matter how badly gerrymandered we will be when the Texas Democratic Party gets its act together, winning state-wide races will be the first step to actually rinse some red out, particularly with a Democratic governor and the power of veto.

(4,695 posts)The Democratic Party starts with individuals that say, if I can vote in the General Election why not vote in the Primary too. Early voting runs into the evening hours on some days.
And it is in our best interest to contact others so that many of us can vote as a big block turning gerrymandering in to our favor. Get together with others by contacting your County Democratic Party, and make a difference by contacting others if you can. At the least, join others at the voting area and voting booth. Hope you go vote.

This ballot is excellent text and info to help with the voting process. Hopefully everyone will look into the policies and plans of the candidates, who are running for office, that would appear on their local ballot.
